Breast Surgery

Here at West Valley Hospital we have highly regarded and experienced plastic and reconstructive surgeons who have undergone intensive specialist training in plastic surgery. They can perform a range of plastic surgeries to improve the function and appearance of specific parts of a person’s body or skin. They offer convenient and local appointments to discuss in detail your individual plastic surgery needs. We offer excellent aftercare in a relaxed and restful hospital setting.

Areola Reduction

An areola reduction is an operation to reduce the size of a large or disproportionate areola on one or both breasts. It aims to make your areola more proportioned and balanced to the size of your breast or to create symmetrical areolas on asymmetrical breasts.

Areola reduction is usually performed under local anaesthetic as a day case procedure. Your plastic surgeon will remove some of the outer pink brown area of your areola, bring the neighbouring skin inwards to surround your new smaller areola and stitch it in place using permanent deep sutures.

Breast augmentation

A breast augmentation is performed to increase the size of both of a woman’s breasts. It can be performed purely for cosmetic reasons to create larger and more voluptuous breasts, or following a mastectomy. Implants are usually used in cosmetic surgery for breast enlargements.

Ladies who have had a mastectomy (double or single) as part of their breast cancer treatment, may have mammoplasty (breast reconstruction) at the same time as their mastectomy or sometime later on. Breasts can be reconstructed using implants or tissue from your back, stomach, thighs or buttocks to build up the breast area to achieve a more feminine breast appearance. Your plastic surgeon will offer detailed advice to help you to decide.

Breast Uplift (Mastopexy)

A breast uplift is a cosmetic procedure that rejuvenates breasts that may look droopy and flat to return them to a more youthful and uplifted looking breast. It is often performed for women whose breasts have become saggy due to pregnancy, breast feeding, weight loss or ageing.

A breast uplift itself does not change the size of your breast. It can be performed with a breast augmentation with silicone implants to add extra volume for a larger breast.

Breast Implant Exchange

A breast implant exchange is an operation to remove your current breast implants and replace them with new ones. Implants are not necessarily lifetime prostheses and breast implant exchange may need to be performed for rupture, capsular contracture, or if you wish to have either smaller or larger or different type of implants.

Capsulectomy

A capsulectomy is performed to remove a scar capsule that your body’s immune system has produced to protect you from a foreign implant.

The formation of scar tissue around a breast implant is your body’s normal healing response to a foreign body. In most patients the scar capsule helps keep the breast implants in place and walls off the implant from the rest of the breast. However, sometimes this capsule of scar tissue becomes unusually hard and starts to contract around the implant, known as capsular contraction, and this can lead to your breasts looking misshapen and feeling tender and sore.

Inverted Nipple Correction

An inverted nipple correction is a relatively simple surgical procedure to make inverted nipples protrude outwards.

Inverted nipple surgery is usually performed under local anaesthetic as a day case procedure. During your procedure your plastic surgeon will make small cuts to the base of your nipple to free it from the deeper tissue and then re-stitching it so that it protrudes outwards.
