Our day hospital offers state-of-the-art facilities and a relaxed atmosphere in the heart of South London for patients having areola reduction surgery.
What is areola reduction surgery?
Areola reduction is an operation to reduce the size of a large or disproportionate areola on one or both breasts. It aims to make your areola more proportioned and balanced to the size of your breast or to create symmetrical areolas on asymmetrical breasts.
Areola reduction is usually performed under local anaesthetic as a day case procedure. Your plastic surgeon will remove some of the outer pink brown area of your areola, bring the neighbouring skin inwards to surround your new smaller areola and stitch it in place using permanent deep sutures.
Dressings will be applied and you will need to wear a bra to support your breasts continuously whilst the wounds heal.
How long is the areola reduction procedure?
Areola reduction usually takes approximately one to two hours to perform. You will be able to go home the same day.
How long is the recovery process after an areola reduction procedure?
The recovery process after an areola reduction procedure is quite short. You should follow your surgeon’s post-operative advice.
Immediately after your procedure your incisions may be sore and you may feel some discomfort for a few days. Over-the-counter pain relief such as Paracetamol should relieve this. You can expect to go back to work within a few days. You may have some bruising, swelling and tenderness around your areola and this should subside within a few weeks. You will still be able to breast feed after an areola reduction.
What is the cost of the areola reduction procedure?
Our guide package price for areola reduction under local anaesthetic is from £3000. This guide price is an estimate of costs and you will receive a formal quotation price following your consultation with one of our cosmetic surgeons.
